TASTING NOTES: The most amazing part of tasting Jiro's teas at Houkouen was seeing the vast difference between cultivars amongst his tea fields on the mountains of Ryogochi.
I fell in love with this sencha's brilliant floral aromatics instantly. Jiro tells me this is one of his favourite cultivars, and i can see why. So much expression in this tea.
Pale light green appearance in the cup, with an immediate pretty and sweet aroma of cherry blossom and a hint of almond.
On the palate theres a distinct sweetness, almost like a candied sweetness that lingers. Thats beautifully balanced by a lovely woody tannin and tomato leaf. The okuharuka cultivar is known for its natural umami, it is really a more fuller bodied style of sencha.
